Anne & Eric live out in the country, not too far from Mingo Creek County Park, where I photographed their engagement session. While in general they prefer quiet, rural scenery, they also love classic, elegant architecture. This made the Omni William Penn in downtown Pittsburgh the perfect location for their wedding day. While it was rainy and pretty dreary almost the entire day, we got lucky that there was a brief break in the rain while we walked from the Omni over to their ceremony location, First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh, and had just enough time for a few portraits along the way in Mellon Square Plaza.
After the ceremony, rain prevented any more outdoor photos, but we made use of the Omni William Penn’s beautiful lobby and mezzanine before it was time for the reception.
Anne & Eric’s reception, with DJ entertainment by DJ Loyal, was held in the beautiful, dark art deco Urban Room. It’s hard to describe this room, so it’s a good thing there are plenty of photographs below, and I don’t have to try too hard to describe it. The ceiling is two stories high, the walls are a combination of black glass and painted murals, and the light fixture in the center of the room is stunning.
Anne did a superb job coordinating absolutely stunning reception decor. Together with florist Fragile Paradise and Lora at the Omni William Penn, they tied together white hydrangeas and olive leaves with black, white and gold details. I’m going to share a separate post very soon featuring these details, as there are just too many to include here.
Here are some of my favorite photos of the day. Thanks to Nicki for shooting this wedding with me.
When Anne told me that their two dogs, Lotus and Porsche, a Maltese and a Chihuahua would be at the hotel with them, I pictured manic little dogs running around yipping. That wasn’t the case at all. They were so calm and quiet.
Anne’s parents look on, as Anne, the youngest of their seven children, finishes getting ready.
The First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh is a beautiful church, with striking Gothic architecture and detail.
What’s more fun a bride and groom walking their little dogs through an elegant hotel lobby?
Isn’t this pretty? The wedding cake was Prantl’s Burnt Almond Torte, decorated with olive leaves and ivory roses. Best Man Kenny explained how he knew Anne & Eric would stay together. The story goes that one night when out to dinner, Eric ordered dessert. Before it arrived, he had to visit the restroom. By the time he came back, Anne had eaten the whole thing. While Eric is pretty passionate about his food, he managed to forgive her.DJ Loyal, working hard at doing his thing to keep the party going all night.
I was so happy that I was in the right place at the right time to capture this moment – Anne & Eric saying thank you and good night to her father at the end of the night.
