Lisa and Kanat are both engineers, and met at work. Kind of a while ago. That was back in Texas, and since then they’ve moved around the globe, before finally settling here in Pittsburgh, where Lisa went to college.
Their wedding day brought friends and family from near and very far together to celebrate this long-awaited marriage! Lisa and Kanat began the day at the Omni William Penn in downtown Pittsburgh. Joining me for the day to photograph them was my Syncopated Pictures teammate, Nicki Dembski. Nicki and I have shot video together a lot this year, and we were both happy to be photographers this time.
Lisa and Kanat structured their wedding day to allow for lots of time for pictures. After a first look in the Omni’s exquisite mezzanine, we went over to the North Shore, and then on to the Heinz History Center for their ceremony and reception. More on that to come… in fact, there are some truly amazing reception details that I’ll save for a separate post.
There’s almost never time for portraits with the bride ahead of time! Having time, and a beautiful bride in this beautiful location made for the start of a great day.
Lisa and Kanat are baseball fans – so they didn’t mind a bit that there were many Pirates fans and employees starting to make their way to PNC Park. It’s fabulous to shoot when the Clemente Bridge is closed! Although, you do have quite a few people walking along. You might think, “oh I’ll just wait for this person in the bright orange shirt to walk through…” but they’re immediately followed by someone else.
I LOVE this little spot for photos. I actually saw this spot on my first visit ever to the History Center (as a guest) back in 2001. And finally… finally! 13 years later I was able to shoot portraits there! The Library & Archives room is a warm, intimate ceremony location.
Reverend Mark DeNuzzio of A Simple Vow performed a superb ceremony for these two unique engineers. It’s not a simple task to execute math humor, but he nailed it. Musical entertainment by City Heat.
Congratulations, Lisa and Kanat!
